Notice to Parents and Guardians – Gi Care and Usage
Dear Parents and Guardians,
To maintain organization, hygiene, and a sense of responsibility that is part of our Jiu-Jitsu program, we kindly ask everyone to follow the guidelines below regarding the use and care of the gi.
1. Gis should not remain at school
After each class, students must take their gi home so it can be properly cared for and maintained.
2. The gi is mandatory for class
Students without their gi will not be able to participate in the lesson. The gi is essential for students’ technical development and overall learning in Jiu-Jitsu.
3. Identification of the gi
The student’s name must be written with a pen on the inside of the gi collar. Embroidery is not necessary.
4. Cleaning and hygiene of the gi
Considering that students attend, on average, two classes per week, the gi may be washed once per week while maintaining an acceptable hygiene standard.
If the gi is very sweaty after training, we recommend letting it air dry in the shade before the next use.
Using the same gi for up to two training sessions under these conditions is considered hygienic and appropriate.
5. Student belt
The belt should rarely be washed. If washing becomes necessary, the instructor will inform you.
6. Student responsibility
Taking care of the gi is part of the Jiu-Jitsu learning process.
Each student is responsible for:
- bringing their gi and belt to class
- taking the gi home after training
- keeping their uniform clean and organized
Developing these habits helps build discipline, autonomy, and respect—important values within the practice of Jiu-Jitsu.
7. Clothing worn under the gi
Students should wear a regular T-shirt under the gi.
Please do not wear the shirt used for the flag ceremony under the gi.
If you have any questions, please contact the CS Team.
Thank you for your cooperation.
